Christopher Capece is the President of Heatherwood Luxury Rentals, a 70-year-old, privately owned real estate organization specializing in the development of best-in-class multifamily and mixed-use communities throughout the New York Metro Region and beyond. Heatherwood has long been a pioneer in the Long Island apartment sector, having developed its first apartment communities in the early 1960s and later expanding into New York City in the 2000s. Before joining Heatherwood in 2020, Mr. Capece served as Vice President of Development at AvalonBay Communities, a Real Estate Investment Trust focused on the development, redevelopment, acquisition, and management of high-quality apartment communities in high-barrier-to-entry markets across the U.S. His career at AvalonBay spanned from 2004 to 2019.

Mr. Capece is deeply involved in nonprofit organizations and housing advocacy efforts. He serves on the Board and Executive Committee of The George Washington University Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis (GWCREUA), as well as on the Board and Executive Committee of the Long Island Builder’s Institute (LIBI). He also holds board positions with the Association for a Better Long Island (ABLI), the Stony Brook Real Estate Institute (SBREI), and the Long Island Association (LIA). In addition, he sits on the corporate board of the YMCA of Long Island, where he chairs the Nominating Committee, and is an active board member of Community Housing Innovations (CHI). He previously served on the board of Harlem RBI’s All-Star Committee (now DREAM) in New York City.

Mr. Capece is a Board Member and graduate of The Energeia Partnership at Molloy College and has worked with Habitat for Humanity to help coordinate the construction of several homes for deserving families on Long Island. In 2009, he was named one of Long Island Business News’ “Forty Under 40.” He holds dual MBA degrees from Columbia University and London Business School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from The George Washington University. Christopher resides in New York City with his wife, Frances, and their daughters, Abigail and Katharine.
