Sex Trafficking Awareness on Long Island: Paul Tonna and Leaders Unite Through The Energeia Partnership
Sex trafficking is a growing and urgent issue on Long Island, prompting regional leaders to take coordinated action through The Energeia Partnership. Led by Paul Tonna, President and Executive Director of Energeia, the initiative brings together law enforcement, victim advocates, educators, businesses, and community organizations to raise awareness, prevent exploitation, and protect young people. Drawing on alarming national and local data, the campaign emphasizes that trafficking is not a distant problem. It happens in local neighborhoods, schools, and business districts.
Under Tonna’s leadership, a multidisciplinary team including former FBI agent Gerri Hart, EAC Network advocate Neela Lockel, and nonprofit coordinator Marian Conway is advancing a comprehensive, victim-centered approach. The effort focuses on educating schools, engaging businesses, and empowering community members to recognize warning signs and respond appropriately. By mobilizing Long Island’s institutions and residents, the initiative aims to create a culture of vigilance, prevention, and support, positioning Long Island as a model for community-driven solutions to sex trafficking.
